3

Download a ready-to-use .xlsx file, or click Copy for Excel and paste straight into a sheet.

Why AI Tables Break When You Paste Them into Excel

ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and DeepSeek answer with Markdown tables. Pasting that text into Excel puts every row into a single column full of pipe characters. This converter reads the table structure and writes each value into its own cell, so you get a clean spreadsheet in one click.

Real Numbers, Not Text

Values such as 1,234.50 and 12.5% are saved as numeric cells with matching number formats, so you can sort, filter and sum them right away. Codes with leading zeros and IDs longer than 15 digits stay as text, so Excel never rounds or trims them.

Private by Design

The .xlsx file is built in your browser. Your Markdown is never uploaded, which makes the tool safe for internal reports, financial data and customer lists.

Why Use Our Markdown to Excel Converter

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert a Markdown table to Excel?
Paste your Markdown or upload a .md file, check the preview, then click Download .xlsx. The file opens in Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers, WPS and LibreOffice.
Why does a ChatGPT table end up in one column when I paste it into Excel?
ChatGPT replies in Markdown, where columns are separated by | characters that Excel does not recognize. Paste the reply here, then use Copy for Excel or Download .xlsx to get proper columns.
What happens if my Markdown contains several tables?
Each table is saved to its own sheet. A sheet is named after the closest heading above its table; tables without a heading are named Table 1, Table 2 and so on.
Are numbers converted correctly?
Plain numbers, thousands separators such as 1,234.56 and percentages such as 12.5% become numeric cells. Values with leading zeros, more than 15 digits, currency symbols or units stay as text. You can turn number detection off to keep every cell as text.
Is formatting like bold text and links kept?
Cells are converted to clean text: Markdown symbols are removed, link text is kept and HTML <br> tags become line breaks inside the cell. The header row is made bold and frozen automatically.
Is my data uploaded to a server?
No. The tables are read and the .xlsx file is created entirely in your browser, so nothing is sent to our servers.
Can I convert Excel back to Markdown?
Yes. Save the sheet as CSV, then paste it into our CSV to Markdown Table converter.
